Wang injured in Yankees win
HOUSTON -- The Yankees tied their season-high with an eight-run frame, but it came at a high price. Chien-Ming Wang was injured running the bases in a 13-0 drubbing of the Astros on Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
Wang had pitched five scoreless innings in a great paper matchup against Astros ace Roy Oswalt, but the right-hander hurt his right foot while scoring on Derek Jeter's two-run single in the sixth inning, limping home before being helped off the field.
With Wang hobbled, the Yankees kept pounding. Oswalt exited after 5 2/3 innings and Rodriguez rudely welcomed reliever Wesley Wright with a three-run homer, his 12th, giving Rodriguez 1,540 career RBIs and moving him past Joe DiMaggio (1,537) on baseball's all-time list.
Jorge Posada completed the Yankees' damage in the frame with a long two-run homer, his third. The outing was underwhelming for Oswalt, who allowed seven runs and nine hits, walking four and striking out three.
The blowout victory completed a three-game sweep in Houston for the Yankees, who moved four games above .500 at 37-33 for the first time this season. Wang pitched the first five innings, scattering six hits while walking none and striking out three.
Robinson Cano continued to respond after being benched on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Rodriguez and Posada also drove in three and Johnny Damon had four hits for New York.
